The Alfa Bear Trail begins and ends at the Alfa brewery in Thull, a village in the green hills of South Limburg. This trail-running event offers three distances, typically 12 km, 18 km, and 24 km, although the organizers occasionally present a different set of distances as a surprise. The race takes place in November and typically sells out before registration closes, so participants should monitor the opening of registration rather than expecting available spots later.
The routes are fully marked, eliminating the need for runners to use a map or GPS. The course crosses forests and meadows within the Geleenbeekdal and Stammenderbos, featuring brooks, undulating terrain, and landmarks like Kasteel Terborgh. The brewery's heritage is integral to the event; the Meens family has been brewing in Thull since 1870. Upon finishing, participants can visit the Alfa Brouwerijcafé to enjoy a glass of Alfa Edel Pils, a pilsner twice recognized as the world's best.
