Berenloop Terschelling

The Berenloop Terschelling is a half marathon and marathon held on the Dutch Wadden island of Terschelling each November. Thousands of runners participate, and the full marathon is considered a challenging island race, distinct from a flat city time trial. The marathon begins on Torenstraat in West-Terschelling and concludes at Brandarisplein. The course winds through the harbor, villages, Boschplaat, dunes, forest, open land, and along the beach. Runners will encounter flat asphalt, undulating shell paths, and approximately three kilometers of sand. However, the beach section may be altered in severe weather conditions. The race originated as a sporting conclusion to a year themed around Willem Barentsz, a seafarer born on Terschelling. Almost all island residents are involved, either as participants, volunteers, or spectators.
