De 5 van Bavel is a village road race held in Bavel, near Breda, starting at Kloosterstraat 21. It originated in 2014 when Jac van Gils and Henk Bruins organized a running event during the local fair, and it retains a connection to that community gathering spirit. The event includes short youth races of 500 metres and 1 kilometre, alongside 5 km and 10 km races for adults, accommodating children, first-time runners, club athletes, and more competitive participants.
The 5 km course follows the streets of Bavel, while the 10 km offers a longer loop of the village race day. The inaugural event featured a kids run, a 5 km race, and a novelty high heels race, reflecting the event's character: competitive running is supported, but the event is not exclusively for elite athletes. It attracts over 500 participants, with capacity for up to 1,500, and is organized by Stichting Bavel Beweegt. De 5 van Bavel also contributes to the Bredaille, a local Breda running medal awarded for completing at least three races from a selection of six.
