About
De Hel van Harkema is a demanding run-and-ride weekend held near Harkema in the Friese Wouden, featuring trail running, a children's race, mountain biking, and gravel cycling. The event lives up to its name: the MTB portion is presented as a mountain-bike survival tour, covering 66.6 kilometers and including six obstacles on the course.
The trail runs incorporate sand, forest edges, and undulating paths around the Muntsegroppe, offering 5 and 10 kilometer distances for adults and a 1 kilometer race for children up to 14 years old. The cycling day combines marked MTB routes with gravel routes navigated by GPX, and corporate teams can participate together. Riders can opt for the “chicken run” to bypass an obstacle. The event has previously featured a winter-in-summer theme named “Hell Niño,” which included a Hell Plaza and an afterparty.
