The Midzomeravondloop 5 kilometer is a 5K race held in Enschede, Overijssel, Netherlands, around the summer solstice. The course is precisely 5 kilometers, measured and certified by the Athletics Union, and officiated by an Athletics Union race director. The race is limited to 100 participants and is designed for runners who can accurately judge their pace as well as those who are fast.
Before the start, each runner submits a predicted finish time to the second. Participants begin in staggered groups every 30 seconds. The winner is the runner whose actual finish time is closest to their predicted time; in case of a tie, the faster runner wins. The course consists of 4.2 kilometers on asphalt, followed by approximately 400 meters on cobblestones and a bike path, concluding with a final section on hard sand and gravel. Participants must observe traffic rules as they are considered road users. The race has a 35-minute time limit, and the entry fee covers coffee or tea and a sandwich after the event.
