Rooj Gravel’s Gravel One Fifty starts and finishes in Roden, Northern Drenthe, close to the border of Groningen, Friesland, and Drenthe. It is a flat, fast gravel qualifier organized by Enforce Sports Events. The event offers a 150 km race for men aged 19-59 and women aged 19-49, and a 92 km qualifier for men 60+ and women 50+. The event takes inspiration from the Slag om Norg road race, but moves the competition to dirt roads, gravel lanes, grass sections, and open country roads.
The course is entirely flat, making speed and positioning crucial, but the varied surface prevents it from being straightforward. Riders will navigate plains, forest edges, villages, hard-packed dirt, old gravel roads with potholes, and grass that can disrupt pace. Singletrack is not featured, and nearly the entire route is wide enough for open racing, emphasizing power, aerodynamics, and group dynamics over technical skill. The looped village roads also facilitate spectator movement and multiple viewing opportunities. Drenthe offers local points of interest beyond the race itself: the province features extensive cycling paths, prehistoric dolmens from approximately 3400 BCE, the significant dolmen site at Borger, and the nearby TT Circuit Assen.
