The Vondelparkloop takes place entirely within Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, using the Blauwe Theehuis as the start and finish point. This annual running event, organized by the Amsterdam athletics club Phanos, offers multiple distances rather than a single race. The primary distance is 10 kilometers, completed in three laps of the park. Shorter options include one or two laps, and the program also features children’s and company races.
The event originated from a local race connected to the Amsterdam fire brigade, with firefighters participating from its early years. International fire brigade championships subsequently attracted runners from England, Belgium, Germany, and Scotland to Amsterdam. A Saturday evening race, Light the Night, provides a unique element: the park is illuminated, and the runners are also lit. The field is diverse, including children, adults, club runners, company teams, firefighters, and casual runners, all part of the same park-based weekend.
