Ships on the Westerschelde pass so close to the shore that walkers near Vlissingen can watch them almost at hand. The Westerscheldetocht has two local forms: a walking tour from VCB De Lammerenburcht in Vlissingen and an annual cycling event in Hulst organized by Tourclub Hulst. The walking version offers 7, 10, 15, 20, and 30 kilometer routes. The Hulst ride is for road cyclists and strong e-bikers, with routes that have included 65 and 100 kilometers, plus longer and shorter options in some listings.
The Vlissingen walk uses the coast as its main draw, passing the Boulevard, Nollebos, the beach, and Koopmanshaven, the home port for Dutch and Belgian pilot boats. The Hulst cycling routes head through Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on rural polder roads and along the Westerschelde, with De Griete near Terneuzen used as a stop on both main distances. Riders start from MHC Rapide in Hulst in recent listings, and older listings also name Restaurant Isegrim as a start point. Tourclub Hulst has about 240 members, and the day is described locally as friendly, with food and drinks after the ride at MHC Rapide.
