Winter Triathlon Twente takes place at IJsbaan Twente in Enschede, located in the Twente region of the Netherlands. The event deviates from the standard swim-bike-run format, featuring a run-cycle-skate sequence. This structure integrates the ice rink as an active part of the competition. It stands as the sole true winter triathlon in Enschede and Twente, offering categories for children, youth, beginners, individual competitors, Dutch Championship participants, and relay teams.
The race distances vary. The mini race includes 1.25 km running, 8 km cycling, and 2 km skating. The quarter distance comprises 10 km running, 50 km cycling, and 20 km skating. Sprint participants cover 5 km running, 22 km cycling, and 10 km skating. Youth and recreational short-course racers compete in 2.5 km running, 15 km cycling, and 5 km skating. Both the sprint and long-distance races typically fill rapidly, with limited availability for same-day registration, necessitating early sign-ups for most participants. Stichting WinterTriatlon Twente, based in Hengelo, organizes the event, which is affiliated with the Dutch triathlon federation, the NTB.
