Geiteryggenløpet begins and ends on the runway at Geiteryggen Airport in Skien, with runners lining up where aircraft normally taxi. This late-November evening run offers 5 km and 10 km distances, each starting in a mass start. Headlamps are required, though the course features torches in wooded areas and spotlights on the runway.
The race is organized by Bedriftsidretten i Telemark and attracts many local participants. Recent years have seen 1,600 entries, with capacity now set at 2,000, divided equally between the two distances. Before the race, participants can collect bibs and enjoy warm drinks around a bonfire, followed by a brief group warm-up. Medals are awarded to finishers shortly after crossing the line. The evening also features music from DJ Elvira and July Sax.
