Hauernløpet begins and ends at Spiralen above Drammen, leading runners directly into the forests of Drammensmarka. The primary event is a challenging yet achievable trail run spanning approximately 19 km, featuring around 550 meters of elevation gain. The terrain consists of about three-quarters trail and one-quarter gravel. Held in September, it is part of the Hauerntrippelen series, which also includes 10 km and 54 km distance options.
The course ascends rapidly from Spiralen on gravel before transitioning to trail towards Stronghytta. It then proceeds past Årkvisla and reaches Panteguten near the 6 km mark. From Panteguten, the route climbs consistently to Tverken at 10 km, before descending towards Spiralen via Landfallhytta and Villåsen. Runners will encounter some steep ascents late in the race. Three aid stations are positioned along the course, with the first located at Årkvisla/Hau around 5 km. The event, organized by Thorleif Haug Skifestival, originated as an autumn test run before becoming part of Hauerntrippelen.
