Jordbærdilten is a short summer race in Valldal, a fruit-growing village in the Valldalen valley approximately one hour inland from Ålesund. The main race covers 3.2 km along the local route known as the “penalty lap.” Participants can choose between a relaxed fun run or a timed competition. Separate competition categories exist for women and men aged 16 and older, and for boys and girls up to 15.
The setting is small but active in summer. Valldal has about 1,000 permanent residents, but its population increases when the area’s eight campsites fill, often with visitors from Ålesund. Sylte, the primary village, is situated by Storfjorden, and the valley extends roughly 30 km inland and uphill toward Trollstigen. Valldal cultivates plums, cherries, apples, pears, and particularly strawberries, a local identity reflected in the race with strawberries provided at the finish. Children under 10 have their own Minidilten, gift prizes are awarded by start number, and the top three finishers in each competition class receive awards.
