Lavkarittet is a cross-country mountain bike race held in Storfjord municipality, Northern Norway, using Skibotn as its central point. The primary course spans approximately 67.5 km with an elevation gain of around 1200 meters, presenting a substantial mountain journey rather than a brief local circuit. Participants navigate the terrain from Hatteng to Skibotn, with the event typically taking place in August.
The route combines challenging ascents with swift descents between Hatteng and Skibotn, a segment establishing the race as a significant mountain biking event in Northern Norway. Approximately 160 participants typically compete, drawing individuals from Norway and internationally. The event accommodates various skill levels, offering categories for competitive cyclists, recreational riders, and children, alongside shorter 30 km and 15 km distances and a free MiniLavka for very young participants. Professional cyclist Tiril Jørgensen has participated multiple times, highlighting the shared spirit among riders and the northern Norwegian scenery as key attractions. Lavkarittet also serves as a qualifying race for Birkebeinerrittet, attracting those seeking a demanding local test and riders preparing for larger competitions.
