Lofoten Ultra-Trail 100 Miles begins with a boat trip from Reine through Reinefjorden to Kirkefjord, giving Norway's first 100-mile trail race an unusual start before any running commences. The race, a segment of The Arctic Triple Lofoten Ultra-Trail, directs a limited field of up to 150 participants across the Lofoten islands to Svolvaer on Austvagoy. It is a marked ultra of approximately 162 km with over 7,000 meters of ascent, and it holds UTMB Index status as a 100M race.
The course is long, steep, and strictly managed, with checkpoints at Napp (56 km), Kleppstad (144 km), and Kongsmarka (158 km). Participants receive a race briefing the afternoon before the start, then must navigate a full island crossing featuring mountain terrain, coastal villages, and late-stage challenges before arriving in Svolvaer. The broader event also features 12 km, 24 km, 48 km, 50-mile, relay, and children's races, meaning the 100-mile field shares the weekend with shorter-distance runners and local teams, not as an isolated expedition.
