The Złoty Półmaraton begins in Lądek-Zdrój's spa park, opposite Dom Zdrojowy Wojciech, leading runners directly into the Golden Mountains of Lower Silesia. This half-marathon is part of the Lower Silesian Mountain Running Festival, a summer mountain-running event organized by Fundacja Maratony Górskie. The official distance is 21 km, but the challenge exceeds that of a road half-marathon: the course gains approximately 1,550 meters in elevation and loses the same on the descent, with a 7-hour time limit and sparse aid stations.
The race is held alongside longer mountain events within the festival, including 45 km, 68 km, 110 km, 130 km, and 240 km races, as well as a 10 km option. Consequently, the town becomes crowded with runners undertaking vastly different challenges. The half-marathon route combines forest paths with open, grassy terrain; these exposed sections can be demanding in warm weather. One participant's account mentioned temperatures exceeding 30°C and a single aid station located early on the course. Piotr Hercog, a prominent ultra runner, directs the event and serves as chief judge. The race has received positive feedback within Polish mountain-running communities. Recent statistics indicate over a thousand registrations for the half-marathon, with nearly a thousand starters and very few dropouts.
