The Corrida da Liberdade begins and ends next to the Monastery of S. Miguel de Refojos in Cabeceiras de Basto, located in Portugal’s Braga district. This yearly road race features a 13 km main event, complemented by shorter races for youth starting at 250 metres for the youngest participants. The event commemorates Portugal’s Freedom Day with running, a local gathering, and a significant community involvement.
The course incorporates Praça da República and the monastery’s surroundings as its core area, keeping the race centered in the town’s historic core. With over thirty years of history, it stands as one of northern Portugal’s more traditional races, attracting children, local runners, club athletes, and competitors of various skill levels to its unified program.
