Nexe 107 1.2 – Trail Ultra Endurance is a September trail running event held in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Portugal’s Algarve region. The primary event is a 107 km circular ultra covering 3,580 m of elevation gain. It begins at night from the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Bárbara de Nexe, with solo participants having 24 hours to complete it. Two shorter options follow the same long-course format: a two-person relay divided into 52 km and 55 km segments, and a 55 km ultra featuring 1,795 m of elevation gain. Participant numbers are limited, with caps set at 100 solo runners, 40 relay teams, and 70 participants for the 55 km race.
The course crosses narrow trails, wider dirt paths, rocky terrain, and some paved stretches through the barrocal hills and Algarve mountains. The 52 km mark is significant as it hosts the Base de Vida aid station, the relay exchange point, and the mid-race cutoff for solo runners. The second relay segment and the 55 km ultra commence from Alportel at Quinta da Catraia/Moinho Famoso. Shuttle services connect the start and finish locations. Participants receive chip timing, real-time GPS tracking, aid stations stocked with provisions, drop-bag services at the Base de Vida and finish, and a finisher award. The event is also part of regional and national ultra trail circuits, including the UTMB series.
