Poço Negro Trail takes its name from the waterfall and lagoon near Rio Mau, Penafiel, in northern Portugal. This summer trail-running event offers a long trail of approximately 31 km, a short trail of about 15 km, an 8 km mini-trail, and a walking option, making it accessible beyond experienced mountain runners. The long route ascends around 1500 m, the short route about 600 m, and the mini-trail or walk about 250 m.
The courses follow natural paths between Serra da Boneca and the Douro River, passing through the Estivada area and the Mau River valley. Organized by the Associação para o Desenvolvimento da Freguesia de Rio Mau, the event's entry income supports a local social institution. Now in its ninth edition, the race brings together runners and walkers for a community event focused on local trails, steep terrain, and the Poço Negro water feature that inspired its name.
