The Saint-Sylvestre de Braga is a December night race held in Braga, Portugal's fifth-largest city, located in the north's Cavado sub-region. The primary event is a 10 km road race on an asphalt course, consisting of one flat, fast loop through the city. It attracts runners aiming for a fast time and amateurs seeking an end-of-year race amidst Christmas lights and a festive crowd. A 5.7 km walk is also offered for those who wish to be part of the atmosphere without competing.
The course is illuminated by headlamps and winds past several of Braga's significant religious sites, including Bom Jesus do Monte, Braga Cathedral, and the Basilica of Our Lady of Sameiro. All participants conclude at Praca da Republica, the city's main square. The 10 km record is under 29 minutes, indicating a competitive pace at the front, while the walking event allows for costumes and a leisurely exploration of the city. Post-race, participants receive refreshments, and local food offerings feature Braga specialties like Pudim Abade de Priscos, roasted kid goat, and Pastel de Nata.
