Kullamannen by UTMB is a trail-running weekend held in Höganäs on Sweden’s southern coast. Races take place around the Kullaberg and Bjäre peninsulas in late October. The shortest event is North Shore at 22 km with 96 m of climbing. The longest is Ultra 100 Miles, covering 173 km with 2,300 m of elevation gain. Also offered are Seventh Seal, a 53 km race with 727 m of climbing, and Sprint Ultra 100 km, a 108 km course with 749 m of climbing.
The routes traverse rocky headlands, coastal paths, rocky hills, and beech and pine forests. The terrain changes frequently, offering more variety than pure mountain climbing. Local Swedish runners compete alongside international trail runners. The UTMB connection awards finishers Running Stones: one for North Shore, two for Seventh Seal, three for Sprint Ultra, and four for the 100-mile race. The event incorporates the Kullamannen legend, using the quote, “This thing was a monster, a slayer of strong men and women,” which suits the rugged coastline.
