Västerås Marathon takes place in central Västerås, starting and finishing near Stadshuset and Vasaparken. The main marathon begins at 9:00, followed by the half marathon at 10:00 and the 10 km at 13:00, structuring the day around three distances. The central station is 300 meters from the start/finish, offering convenient train access. Participants receive pacers, self-seed in the start area, and find water and sports drink stations, toilets along the route, and finish medals. Baggage drop-off is available from early morning in the City Hall restaurant; however, showers and changing rooms are not provided.
The course is flat and fast, described by organizer Simon Zmrzlak as "a perfect course for beating your personal best." It runs counterclockwise, featuring a steep hill 400 meters after the start, a tunnel, and other challenging sections. The route extends in two directions along Lake Malaren, towards Framnas and towards Gustavsvik along Sjohagsvagen. The race returns after an eight-year hiatus, with all distances sold out and 1,500 runners registered. An unusual tradition involves the Swedish national anthem being performed from a gondola lift at the start line.
