イプスウィッチのランナーは、Ipswich WaterfrontとかRiver Orwellの周りで地道に距離踏んでる感じかな。みんな実用的な練習してるよ。Ipswich JAFFA Running Clubがこの街の練習の中心地で、毎週月曜の19:15に告知があって、グループランは4-8 miles、1マイルあたり10分から6分30秒くらいのペースで走ってる。ジュニアセクションは18:45から、初心者グループもあるから入りやすいよ。Waterfrontのループは22 kmで、獲得標高は+129 m。195km。

イプスウィッチのサイクリストは、一人でZ2練だけじゃなくて、ちゃんとクラブシーンがあるんだ。Ipswich Bicycle Clubは1892年から続いてる老舗で、ロード、トラック、cyclocross、MTB合わせて200人以上のメンバーがいるよ。土曜のソーシャルno-drop rideは12mph+から18mph+まで、green rideは4月から9月まで12-14mphでやってる。National Cycle Route 1、National Cycle Route 51、Fonnereau Way、Orwell Bridge Loop、Alton Water Circuitは全部定番ルートに入ってるね。きつい登りがあるのはScenic South Suffolkで、102.1 kmで686 mも登れるし、Cafe Comoは81.4 kmで643 m登れるよ。

7月と8月は、ここでbase milesをしっかり積むのに一番いい時期だよ。日中も暖かいし、夜間intervalもできるくらい日照時間も十分あるからね。イプスウィッチの夏は体感的には穏やかだけど、7月の最高気温はLondonやColchesterと変わらないくらいだから、長いgran fondoとかやる前は、みんなしっかりボトルを準備するんだ。街の中心部は毎日16:30から10:30の間は両方向から自転車で通れるし、Buttermarketは終日両方向通行OK。冬はルート自体はそんなに変わらないけど、走るリズムが変わるかな。平均すると年間55.33日も霜が降りる夜があるんだ。イプスウィッチのランナーはクラブの練習会はしっかりやるし、サイクリストはno-dropグループやcrit training、地道なZ2練に力を入れる感じ。
