True to the Brew Trail Run/Hike 13.1 Half Marathon
True to the Brew is a 13.1-mile trail run and hike in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The morning start is near Cedar Springs Baptist Church, with the finish inside Croft State Park. The race follows the Croft Passage of the Palmetto Trail and is designed for experienced trail runners. The route is technical, moderately hilly, and has a four-hour cutoff. Entry is limited to 250 runners, participants must be over 14, and the race sells out annually.
The point-to-point course includes parking near the start and shuttle service back from Croft State Park. Aid stations are located every 3 to 4 miles, with restrooms at the start and finish. A bag drop is also available. The race incorporates a brewery theme: packet pickup is at RJ Rockers Brewery, offering runners a beer and a concert. Finishers receive a custom bottle opener medal. A cooked breakfast is provided after the event, along with awards for overall, masters, and age-group placings.
Paris Mountain Half Marathon Run/Hike
Black Bear Half Marathon and 8k
The Black Bear Half Marathon & 8K is a fall race in Hendersonville, North Carolina, run during peak foliage season. Both distances start and finish in Jackson Park. The event is organized by iDaph Events with Hunter Subaru as presenting sponsor. The half marathon uses a fast USATF-certified route with under 400 feet of elevation gain, suitable for runners chasing a personal best or seeking a manageable autumn race.
The course heads out along Bartlett Street, joins the paved Oklawaha Greenway, and moves through wooded stretches, historic streets, and river corridors. The half marathon is a double loop, simplifying pacing and giving spectators more chances to see runners. Aid stations provide water, Gatorade, energy gels, and Jambars, with repeated hydration access on each loop. Packet pickup is held the day before at Oklawaha Brewing, giving the weekend a local Hendersonville feel before race morning.
Run for Outreach - Tryon Half Marathon and Fall for the Foothills 5K
Run for Outreach combines the Tryon Half Marathon and the Fall for the Foothills 5K at Tryon International, a large equestrian property in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The half marathon covers 13.1 miles and the 5K covers 5 kilometers. Both races function as a fundraiser for Outreach and are presented by Ashworth Financial. It is a fall event with a small-field atmosphere; the most recent race had 52 runners in the half marathon and 21 in the 5K.
The half marathon course consists mostly of packed dirt and gravel, offering a softer surface than a road race without being a full trail run. The route runs alongside a river and through Tryon's horse country, with Tryon International's arenas, stables, riding trails, and open grounds defining the setting. Participants who have returned for the race often mention the post-race breakfast, which includes muffins, bagels, hot egg casseroles, and fruit. The race organizers have also noted the venue's 1,600-plus acres as space for potential route adjustments, an expanded committee, and a possible fun run.
Hartness Half Marathon & 5K
The Hartness Half Marathon & 5K takes place on the Hartness property in Greenville, South Carolina, situated near Pelham Road and Interstate 85. Participants can choose between a half marathon or a 5K. The course incorporates varied terrain beyond typical road miles, including pavement, trails, dirt roads, gravel roads, and grass fields.
The route crosses the Hartness property and extends into its nature preserve, offering a mixed-surface run distinct from conventional city road races. The surfaces are maintained well, making the event accessible for beginners yet providing sufficient variety for competitive runners. The event has partnered with Set Up Events and has contributed to local causes such as Make-A-Wish South Carolina and A Child's Haven.
The Longest Night
The Longest Night is an overnight trail and ultra race held at the 120-acre Preserve at Lakewood in Greenville, South Carolina, just before the winter solstice. All participants run on the same 1.5-mile grass loop, featuring wide paths and rolling hills. The distance completed depends on the number of laps a runner finishes: 34 laps for the 50-mile race, 21 for the 50K, 18 for the marathon, 9 for the half marathon, and 4 for the 10K. Each loop must be completed in under 25 minutes, making the race a test of endurance and pace management.
The longer races commence around sunset and proceed through the night. The marathon, half marathon, and 10K start before dawn. The course loops back to a barn serving as the start/finish line, aid station, and personal staging area, providing runners a consistent base between laps. This is a lap-by-lap elimination format; failing to meet the pace cutoff results in disqualification. It is also a cup-less event, requiring runners to provide their own cup.
Snowbird Challenge (50k - 13.1 - 5.2 - Relay)
The Snowbird Challenge takes place at Riverwest Preserve, offering four race distances: 50k, half marathon, 5.2 miles, or the Reindeer Relay. Each option utilizes the same 2.62-mile loop, structuring the day around repeated circuits rather than a linear course. 50k participants continue laps until the ultra distance is met, while those in shorter races and relay teams experience the winter course in reduced segments.
Upstate Race Series presents this event with a lighthearted approach to cold-weather running. The event description refers to it as a run for "true winter wanderers" and a "frosty little proving ground," acknowledging runners who might prefer warmer conditions. Registration includes park entry, and finishers are awarded medals and custom bibs. The first 100 entrants will receive custom race socks, and the series also directs donations to local non-profits.
Greenville Half Marathon & 5K
The Greenville Half Marathon & 5K is a net-downhill race in the Greenville, South Carolina area. The half marathon begins at Gateway Park in Travelers Rest at 7:30 AM and concludes on the TD Stage at the Peace Center in downtown Greenville. The 5K starts at Swamp Rabbit Cafe, then follows the Swamp Rabbit Trail to the same downtown finish. The event is scheduled for its 15th running, showing its established local history.
The half marathon is point-to-point, requiring runners to arrange transportation and parking. Pre-race bus tickets are limited and purchased during registration. Return buses operate from the finish area back toward the start every 30 minutes from 9 AM to noon. The course includes six aid stations, each supplied with water, Gu, and Wildly Charged electrolyte drink, and portable toilets are available at each station. Pace groups from Without Limits Greenville cater to finish times from 1:30 to 2:45. Awards are presented to overall, masters, grand masters, and age-group runners.
Harmon Field Half Marathon & Morris Fun Run
The Harmon Field Half Marathon & Morris Fun Run is a spring race in Tryon, North Carolina, centered on the town’s reopened Harmon Field. The primary event is a 13.1-mile out-and-back half marathon, with the shorter Morris Fun Run offering families and kids a gentler option of about 1.5 to 2 miles. Runners, walkers, spectators, and families participate in the day, and race proceeds support special projects at Harmon Field.
The half marathon route crosses the Hunting Country of Polk County, an area closely associated with Tryon’s equestrian heritage. The fun run route remains near Harmon Field, which was repaired and reopened following damage from Hurricane Helene. The race name also references Morris the Horse, Tryon’s cherished local landmark at Trade Street and Pacolet Street in downtown Tryon, where participants are encouraged to take a selfie.
Knock On Wood Trail Run/Hike - 13.1 & 10k
The Knock On Wood Trail Run/Hike is a trail race held at Camp Spearhead within Pleasant Ridge County Park in Marietta, South Carolina. Both half marathon and 10K distances are offered, with races commencing at 8:00 AM. This event is included in the Upstate Race Series and is also playfully known as Knock on Woodstock. Packet pickup begins at 7:00 AM near the main shelter. The half marathon has a 4-hour time limit.
The 10K follows a loop course within the park. Half marathon participants will run the same trail-focused course for a longer distance. The race benefits Camp Spearhead, a camp serving children and adults with disabilities. Participants include those running or hiking to support the camp's mission. Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers and age group winners. The first 100 entrants will receive custom race socks.
