The Longhorn Stampede 5K Run/Walk is an annual community race held at Leigh High School on Leigh Avenue in San Jose’s Cambrian area. It is a flat, USATF-certified 5K that begins at 9:00 AM, welcoming walkers, casual joggers, and distance runners on the same course. The event centers on the school community, with students, staff, parents, families, neighbors, friends, and local businesses participating. Registration includes a race bib, professional timing, a short-sleeve tech shirt, and a custom finisher medal.
The route begins at Leigh High School, travels through the surrounding Cambrian neighborhoods, and returns to campus for the final half mile. The last 100 meters pass the theatre and gym before finishing in the quad, placing the race's end in the middle of the school. Leigh cheerleaders and band provide support along the course. The day features age-group prizes, a costume contest, free participant photos, and a post-race gathering. Proceeds benefit Leigh High School programs via the Home & School Club, Performing Arts Parent Association, Sports Boosters, and Spirit Boosters, supporting academic, social/emotional, and extracurricular student activities.
