4 Hours in the Woods is a free four-hour fun run and walk at Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana, starting and finishing at Woodland Shelter. The format is straightforward: the clock begins at noon, counts down to 4 p.m., and each participant determines their own running or walking duration within that timeframe. No specific distance is required, there is no official scoring, and the race crew does not track anything, so participants record their own time and mileage.
The course follows the park’s trails, including a one-mile road section for those preferring a break from the natural terrain. Runners and walkers can participate individually or with others, but they must return to the start/finish point before the four hours conclude. Anderson Road Runners provides the clock, food, and beverages, and attendees are welcome to bring their own food for a potluck.
Community Hospital Anderson’s Community In Motion program supports the event, maintaining free entry and contributing to the day's atmosphere as a relaxed group activity rather than a formal competition.
