The Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary Point .5K is a intentionally short 500-meter “race” in downtown Walla Walla, Washington, beginning at Heritage Square Park on East Main Street. It takes place in October, starts in the early afternoon, and has a $30 entry fee. The humor is in the distance: half a kilometer, or .31 miles, which the organizers also list as 546.8 yards, 1,640 feet, and 19,685 inches.
The route follows a flat paved road, making the challenge more humorous than athletic. Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary puts on the event, now in its seventh year, and the day features on-site registration, raffle tickets, a photo booth, and a gathering after the run that extends well beyond the race itself. Funds raised benefit Walla Walla Community Hospice, Camp Amanda, and Sunrise Rotary projects.
