A Walk/Run to Remember is a 5K run and walk in Carson City that starts and finishes at McFadden Plaza. The morning setup is simple: check-in opens at 8:00 AM, the race starts at 9:00 AM, and people can join at either a running or walking pace. It is both a tribute event and a fundraiser, with the money and attention aimed at ending Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
The day is built around remembrance as much as the 5K itself. Participants are encouraged to wear purple in creative ways, and the event adds live music, raffle prizes, and a costume contest around the run and walk. The fundraiser has more than 10 years behind it, and its cause is personal for many families: one in three seniors die with Alzheimer's or another dementia, and Alzheimer's kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. Early packet pickup is offered the day before at Dickson Realty, and runners or walkers who want a shirt need to register by the shirt-guarantee deadline.
