The Copper Collar 5K begins in downtown Panama City, Florida, at Harrison Avenue and East 4th Street. This 3-mile running and walking event is presented by the Man in the Sea Museum with the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, and has been a local race since 1982.
The route is a fast, flat run through the historic downtown area, a change from earlier versions that used base roads and the trails of St. Andrews State Park. The race, which began with the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, honors military diving heritage. It gets its name from the copper diving helmets worn by Navy divers. Runners, walkers, military supporters, and those interested in underwater history are welcome. The event also supports preservation work tied to that history.
