The Corps of Discovery Trail Races begin and end at the Lewis & Clark Trailhead in Weldon Spring, Missouri, situated on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. The St. Louis Track Club organizes the event within the Weldon Spring Conservation Area, offering three trail distances: a 5-mile race, an 8-mile race, and a half marathon. All distances commence in the morning from the same trailhead, creating a unified trail event atmosphere.
The 5-mile race utilizes a single loop of the Clark Trail, a quicker, more even 5-mile path suitable for novice trail runners and those seeking a fast pace. The 8-mile race follows the Lewis Trail, with rougher terrain, river vistas, ascents, and varied elevation changes. Half marathon participants complete the Lewis loop initially, followed by the Clark loop, with the entire course run counterclockwise. The course remains accessible to other trail users, with clear markings and a volunteer stationed at the trail junction. Participants registering before the merchandise deadline will receive a finisher's medal, and St. Louis Track Club members are eligible for a reduced entry fee.
