The Driathlon is a Bay City, Michigan race structured like a triathlon, but with paddling instead of swimming. It begins at 3940 Boy Scout Road, with the transition zone at Castaways Bay City. Race morning activities run from 8:00 AM to noon. The format is straightforward: paddle 5K, bike 20K, and then run 5K. Participants can compete as a two-person Team, a two-person Relay, or as an Individual Kayak racer. Registration opens each March.
The paddle segment takes place on the Kawkawlin River, the bike leg utilizes Bangor Township roads, and the run follows the river. In the Team division, both partners complete all three legs together: paddle, bike, and run. For the Relay division, both partners paddle, then one participant bikes while the other runs. Solo racers use a kayak, either their own or one available for rent through the event. The Bay City Morning Rotary Club organizes the race as its primary fundraiser, with proceeds supporting community projects. This event marks its 16th year and attracts participants from throughout Michigan.
