The Juneteenth 5K CommUnity Walk/Run is a free community race in Tampa, Florida, held around Juneteenth at Lowry Park near ZooTampa. It offers an untimed 5K run, an untimed 5K walk, and a free Freedom 1 Mile Fun Run, with no medals issued. The event honors Juneteenth while focusing on health, especially the fight against type 2 diabetes. It is designed for runners, walkers, families, seniors, teams, and kids, not just those focused on finish times.
The 5K course includes some small challenges and drops alongside the Hillsborough River for part of the route. Nearly 400 people participated last year. The event also features music, nutritious food options, local organizations, community partners, and a Kidz Zone anchored by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers activation team. Registration is free, but custom bibs, event shirts, and donations support Fit Futures, a youth program that runs a kids' Run Club, helps provide running shoes when needed, and gives young people opportunities to enter races across Tampa Bay.
