The Mountain Goat Mash returns mountain bike racing to Munising, Michigan, utilizing the forest trails of the Munising Bay Trail Network. This is a yearly cross-country mountain bike race employing interval timing for each participant. The planned course consists of approximately 15 to 20 miles, primarily on singletrack.
The race begins at the Valley Spur trail area and incorporates trails built by MBTN around Munising. Previous courses have connected singletrack, rough two-track sections, the Munising Mountain Bike Park, Rock On!, and the Munising Bay loop, concluding in the downtown area. Extended routes have featured named singletrack trails like Just Beechy, Cedar Streak, and Hemlock Valley. An option for a trail run is also available. The format is suitable for skilled riders seeking a challenging time trial, while newer participants can complete it at their own speed.
