The Palatine Park District Turkey Trot begins Thanksgiving morning at Harper College, with the start area located by the Health and Recreation Center, Building M. Participants can select a 2-mile or 5-mile course, suitable for those seeking a brief holiday run or a more substantial effort before their meal. The 2-mile race commences first, followed by the 5-mile race, and the Sammy Scurry offers a short, separate race for young children later in the morning.
This established Palatine tradition spans over forty years. The event is designed for families as well as runners, offering indoor restrooms, sponsor tables near the race area, and post-race snacks and beverages. Pre-registered runners will receive long-sleeve shirts, and the first 2,000 registered runners will get goody bags. The event also gathers non-perishable food for the POC/Faith Feeds Food Pantry, with specific needs including canned fruit, cereal, beans, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, and dry pasta.
