The Pumpkin Holler Hunnerd begins and ends at Eagle Bluff Resort in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Runners will spend the day on gravel roads in rural Cherokee County, near the Illinois River. This annual race offers several distances: 10+ miles, 25K, 50K, 100K, and 100 miles, accommodating both novice long-distance runners and those aiming for the 100-mile challenge, with aid stations positioned along the course.
The route encircles the J.T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve, a 17,000-acre expanse of oak, hickory, and pine forests, along with savanna, shrubland, and prairie. Participants might spot reintroduced elk near the preserve, and the course offers views of the Illinois River. A gravel bike event, the Gravel Smasher, takes place on Sunday with 30-, 60-, and 70-mile options, utilizing the same roads and sharing the course with 100-mile runners during their final loop. Reports from participants highlight strong volunteer support and a course featuring rolling and challenging hills that contribute to a distinct, personal feel.
