Rocktown Adventure Race starts at Massanutten Resort in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. It offers a 30-hour race for a compact expedition-style challenge and a 5-hour option for a shorter day. This event is part of the USARA Race Series and is organized by GRIT Adventure Racing, a veteran-owned group that hosts adventure races across Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Maryland, and the greater Washington, D.C. area.
The long race includes mountain biking, trekking, paddling, and ropes sections. Navigation and team decisions are integral to the course, not a simple marked route. Both distances are open to solo racers and teams of two, three, or four. This allows for experienced adventure racers, newer competitors, families, and groups to test their coordination and decision-making under pressure. GRIT’s races also support a veteran-community mission, reflecting the owners’ military background and the organizer’s focus on well-executed events with a service component.
