The Santa Cruz Trail Run offers 10K, half marathon, and 30K distances through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. This event is limited to 330 runners across all distances, features professional chip timing, aid stations approximately every 5 to 6 miles, and has a six-hour course limit.
The course winds through redwood forest terrain, including single-track trails, wider paths, sandy sections, river crossings, high ridges, and areas where ocean air is present. The Santa Cruz Mountains trail system is known for the 29.5-mile Skyline-to-the-Sea route, which runs from Saratoga Gap to Waddell Beach, passing Castle Rock and Big Basin. While much of the Skyline-to-the-Sea trail is currently closed due to fire damage, the concept of a mountain-to-ocean run still defines the appeal of this area for trail runners.
