Savannah Ultra Urban 50k Run

The Savannah Ultra Urban 50k Run is a free 50K run held in Savannah, Georgia, with a field limited to 25 participants. It begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Waving Girl statue on the downtown riverfront and concludes at the same location. This is a self-supported "Fatass" style ultra, meaning runners provide their own hydration, nutrition, and fuel, as there is no extensive race infrastructure. The course route varies with each edition, offering participants a different perspective of Savannah instead of a repetitive loop. Certain sections traverse busy urban areas; runners are instructed to use sidewalks where possible, run facing traffic, and remain highly aware. Entry follows a unique tradition: participants email their reasons for wanting to run a free 50K in Savannah. The initial 25 respondents are accepted, and notable responses might be featured on the Rough Runners R4R blog. All finishers are awarded a custom tile-art piece depicting a Savannah symbol.
