The Summit Mountain Challenge is a six-race summer mountain bike race and ride series held on the trails of Summit County, Colorado. Races occur on Wednesday evenings from May through August, with starts and finishes scheduled between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. The series concludes with the Breckenridge Classic, providing a definitive end in one of Colorado’s most popular mountain towns.
Riders select from long, short, or kids courses. Those aiming for the overall series title must finish five of the six races using the same course option. Breckenridge Recreation now manages the series, having acquired it from Jeff Wescott of Maverick Sports Promotions, maintaining a focus on accessible, organized local racing. Race outcomes can be affected by weather and trail conditions; the race director has the authority to delay, cancel, or reschedule events. The series operates under a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service within the White River National Forest.
