The Red Rocks 5K takes place at Red Rocks Park in South Burlington, Vermont. The course begins at the main gate near Central Avenue and concludes by the picnic area close to the beach. This 5K runs on park trails composed of dirt and gravel, featuring moderate inclines through wooded areas. The race commences in the morning.
Runners aged 12 and above are eligible to participate. Younger participants may join if accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the race. GMAA has organized some form of this event since the early 1990s, originally known as the Scholarship Trail Race. Proceeds benefit the GMAA scholarship fund, aiding college-bound runners recognized for their running contributions and academic success. Typically, recent scholarships have consisted of two or three awards of $1,500 each. Participants who pre-register are entered into a raffle. Post-race refreshments and water are available. Awards are presented to age-group winners in men's, women's, and non-binary categories, along with the top three finishers in the 17-and-under scholarship division.
