Tour De Mater is a benefit bike ride in Grainger County, Tennessee, starting from Justice Center Drive in Rutledge. Riders select from 17-, 24-, and 62-mile routes through Grainger County’s tomato-growing region, with police escort across the county, rest stops along the route, and turn-by-turn directions provided by RaceDay Events. The ride benefits children’s charities and the Shop With a Cop Program, and Grainger County Parks and Recreation is the sponsor.
The longest route includes a competitive element with the Climb for Cash Award on Joppa Mountain. The top two male and female riders on the Joppa Mountain Strava segment can win cash prizes, provided they complete the 62-mile route, upload their ride to Strava, and are present for the awards ceremony at the finish. E-bikes are permitted on all routes, but e-bike riders cannot receive cash awards. Following the ride, registered participants receive lunch at the finish, and any unawarded Climb for Cash prize money returns to the Shop With a Cop children’s fund.
