The Tower Tag Challenge is a timed trail race held in Sleeping Giant State Park, Connecticut. It centers on repeated ascents of the park’s Observation Tower. Participants select either a 4-hour or 8-hour duration, aiming to complete as many 3.3-mile out-and-back laps as possible. The course begins at the park’s pavilion, leads to the Tower Trail after a short distance, ascends to the tower, circles it counterclockwise, and returns via the same path.
The course primarily follows the Tower Trail, with a brief paved segment at the start and finish of each loop. This trail is largely a smooth carriage road, but it gains over 600 feet in 1.5 miles, demanding a significant uphill effort on each circuit before the descent. Sleeping Giant State Park provides the backdrop, a Connecticut location offering expansive vistas from its elevated terrain and a trail network well-known to regional outdoor enthusiasts.
