The Herfstbostocht MTB Arnhem begins at the RETO clubhouse, located near Rijnstate hospital, guiding participants into the forested, undulating terrain surrounding Arnhem and the Veluwe. This autumn mountain-bike tour offers multiple distance options, typically between 50 km and 100 km, alongside an 80 km gravel course. Participants can begin from 9:00 AM. The event is designed for those seeking a substantial off-road excursion, not a brief local ride.
The routes traverse forests, heathland, ascents, technical passages, singletrack, and more forgiving sections for recovery. Portions of the course extend through areas like Schaarsbergen, Arnhem, Renkum, and the southern part of the Ede route, incorporating both known trails and newly accessible sections via landowner permissions. The shortest MTB route is marked, whereas longer distances require GPX navigation. RETO and Airborne MTB are the organizing bodies. Amenities include a refuelling station, complimentary parking, secure bike storage, showers, changing facilities, bicycle hire, and a bike cleaning area post-event. Helmets are compulsory, and participation is limited to 750 individuals.
