Corrida das Vindimas

Corrida das Vindimas is a Portuguese running event connected to the grape harvest season, with editions held in wine-growing towns like Cartaxo and Palmela. The event includes a competitive 10 km race, a non-competitive 5 km walk, and children’s races for ages 6 to 17, catering to club runners, walkers, and families. In Cartaxo, the municipality organizes the race with support from Escola de Atletismo Correr + do Cartaxo and Trilho dos Cágados; in Palmela, the municipal chamber collaborates with local clubs and schools. The Palmela course crosses the town’s historic center, while the Cartaxo edition concluded near the Cartaxo Cultural Center. One Cartaxo running of the event attracted approximately 450 participants, with Miguel Mascarenhas winning the men’s race for Grupo Desportivo do Estreito in just over 32 minutes and Patrícia Sílvio winning the women’s race in under 35 minutes. The combination of timed racing, walking, and youth races gives the event the feel of a community sports morning rather than a singular elite competition.
