Abner Oakes III Veterans Run 5K & 10K

The Abner Oakes III Veterans Run begins at the Farmington Canal parking area on Sherman Avenue in Hamden, Connecticut, directing runners onto the Farmington Canal Trail. This community road event includes a 5K, a 10K, and a 1 Mile Fun Walk, scheduled for an October Sunday. The 5K and 10K follow out-and-back courses on the trail, with no traffic intersections for runners. The 5K route includes a water stop at mile 1.5. The 10K route has water stops at miles 1.5, 3, and 4.5. Proceeds benefit House of Heroes Connecticut, an organization that provides one-day, no-cost home repairs for veterans and surviving spouses. Since 2012, its Connecticut chapter has completed repairs for 276 veterans or surviving spouses in the military and public safety fields, across 73 cities and towns. Awards are given based on overall race time, recognizing top finishers in male, female, and non-binary categories.
