The Koberstädter Waldmarathon is a forest running event in Egelsbach, located between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, taking place on the last Sunday in August. Established in 1978, it features a half marathon, 10k, 5k, and races for children and youth. The event is organized by Sportgemeinschaft Egelsbach 1874 e.V. in conjunction with SV Erzhausen. All races conclude at Berliner Platz, with the half marathon commencing at the Egelsbach stadium.
The race derives its name from the Koberstadt, a forest area extending from Egelsbach towards Darmstadt-Kranichstein. The half marathon route includes its first and final two kilometers outside the woods before entering the forest, crossing wide paths beneath mature beech trees. The terrain features gentle undulations rather than being flat, requiring some strength from participants despite the ample space on the course. The forest is also home to historical burial mounds and lends its name to the Koberstadt archaeological site, meaning the course winds through an area rich in history beyond its natural landscape. Typically, over 1,000 runners participate, ranging from half marathoners seeking a challenging run to adults opting for the 10k or 5k, and younger participants in the shorter events.
