O wyścigu
The Oberlichtenauer Silvesterlauf is a New Year's Eve running event in Oberlichtenau, centered on a straightforward end-of-year ritual: run first, celebrate later. The schedule includes a 1.2 km race for children, a 4.8 km public run, and a 9.2 km long-distance option for those seeking a longer holiday run.
For many participants and observers, it marks the final sporting activity before evening festivities commence. The organizers humorously refer to their recurring preparation, mirroring the German New Year's Eve tradition "Dinner for One": instead of a formal dinner, they set up the sports hall, provide mulled wine, distribute start numbers, and send participants off in running attire. A recent running event attracted 269 participants, ranging from children to adults, and began with snowfall after the organizers monitored the weather radar that morning.
