Plaça Xesco Boix serves as the start and finish for the Cursa del Miner de Ferro de Malgrat de Mar, a mountain race held in Malgrat de Mar, near Barcelona. Taking place in August, it features a running race of approximately 12 to 13 km, alongside an 8 km walking march for those seeking a more relaxed pace. The event is organized by GEM, the Grup Excursionista Malgratenc, and was first held in 2011. The routes for runners and walkers initially follow the same path before diverging at a fork. The race course involves a total elevation change of about 300 meters, with climbs and descents. Earlier years limited participation to 300 individuals, but subsequent editions have seen all 650 available bibs sell out within a month, indicating a draw beyond local participants. The structure remains straightforward: collect your bib in the square, proceed into the hills by running or walking, return to the same square, and conclude with awards and the local post-race gathering.
