The CXM Sierra de Espiel is a mountain running event held in Espiel, a town in Cordoba located in the Guadiato Valley. Organized by Club de Atletismo Espiel with support from the Espiel City Council, this event is approaching its tenth running. The race offers two distances: a primary 22 km course featuring approximately 1,200 m of elevation gain, and a secondary 12 km route with around 450 m of elevation gain, accommodating both seasoned trail runners and those newer to the sport.
Both races commence on the road to the station before ascending into the mountains surrounding Espiel, utilizing natural trails instead of paved roads. Aid stations are available along both courses. Previous editions have seen full participation, and one past event was notably affected by mud and rain, where Virginia Aguilera and Angel Merino recorded the fastest times over the 21 km distance.
