The Marathon du Vercors takes place in June in Villard-de-Lans, located in the Isère department of the French Alps. The primary event is a 42.195 km marathon featuring 480 meters of elevation gain. Participants can also complete this distance as a four-person relay. Beyond the marathon, the event includes 10 km and 20 km races, as well as 6 km and 16 km hikes, offering the mountain scenery without the full marathon challenge.
The day begins early with the marathon, relay, and hikes commencing in the morning. The shorter races are scheduled for later, with the 10 km race in the afternoon and the 20 km race in the evening. The 10 km course includes 150 meters of climbing, and the 20 km course adds 229 meters, indicating that even these shorter distances involve significant elevation. Extra Sports is the organizer. A recent edition saw participation close to 2,700 individuals, creating a lively atmosphere.
