Pouilly-Sancerre

Pouilly-Sancerre is a 20 km road race from Pouilly-sur-Loire to Sancerre, run in October between two Loire Valley wine towns. The main event also has a walking option over the same distance, while the wider programme adds a 5 km night race, a 7 km gourmet hike, and children's races based in Pouilly-sur-Loire. It is part of the French Run series and uses the word “epicurean” very literally: this is a race weekend built around running, local wine, food, and heritage rather than just finishing times. The 20 km route leaves Pouilly-sur-Loire, follows roads through vineyard country and along the Loire, then finishes in Sancerre. Experienced runners come for the point-to-point challenge, but the walks and shorter events make the weekend work for people who would rather move at an easier pace. The event village includes tastings with Pouilly winegrowers, and participants can visit La Tour du Pouilly Fumé, tying the race closely to the local wine culture.
